You dont have to choose one or the other though. Thats a pretty huge difference in behavior. I have always had my photos sync to Google from when it was totally. When you delete a picture from the iOS Photos app, that picture is not deleted from Google Photos and will remain there forever until you go manually delete it from the Google Photos app.
